A project by composer/guitarist Ben Copland Gilbert, Crossroad Copeland is a testament to what happens when jazz musicians are asked not to play jazz. Combining the various musical influences of the composer, the music that emerges is a fusion of metal, jazz, funk, and rap. Made up of illustrious young jazz musicians from Quebec, Crossroad Copeland will make you hear, as many big distorted guitar “riffs”, virtuoso solos of trumpet or voice, both powerful and angelic. The name, plus the middle name of the frontman of course, evokes our reality for two years where we are constantly “coping” with what life gives us, and the fact that the world finds itself in a way at a crossroads where we must undertake major changes to counter climate change, inequality, and war. The group, which was only beginning to gain momentum before the pandemic began, is only waiting for the moment when life will allow it to make its mark on the world stage!
