As part of the Grands Spectacles series, the International Rimouski Jazz Fest is proud to present a show with Robi Botos on Saturday August 31. ROBI BOTOS, a renowned multi-instrumentalist, has mastered jazz and funk by integrating elements of his childhood music. Born in Hungary, he started out playing drums before devoting himself to the piano from the age of 7. In 2004, he won the Montreux Jazz Festival solo piano competition, which enabled him to meet and become one of Oscar Peterson’s protégés. Based in Canada for 20 years, Robi has collaborated with jazz greats such as Al Jarreau, Branford Marsalis and Chaka Khan. In 2016, he won a JUNO award for his album “Movin’ Forward”. In 2018, he released “OLD SOUL”, an album that blends jazz, funk, soul and gospel, paying tribute to his Hungarian origins. Robi is also an accomplished composer, having created soundtracks for films such as “A People Uncounted” and “Jean of the Joneses”.
