As part of the series, Journée en Jazz, we are proud to present Blanche Baillargeon !

Double bass player, singer, composer and arranger Blanche Baillargeon are a complete artist who has been working in the music world for nearly 20 years.

At just 19, she began her career as a bassist with DJ Champion and his G-Strings,a project whose immediate success will bring her to her first tour. She went on to play in a wide variety of bands, exploring Cuban, Brazilian, Turkish, Algerian, Bulgarian, Italian, French variety and rock music with equal pleasure and an ever-renewed curiosity. Over the years, she has made some fifteen studio recordings, performed several hundred shows at home and abroad, and won numerous grants and awards. It’s within the groups Christine Tassan et les Imposteures (gypsy jazz) and Misses Satchmo (swing) that she will nurture her longest collaborations, not only as a double bass player and singer, but also as a composer and arranger.

In 2015, she marked a turning point in her career by finally moving to the forefront with the release of her very first album, Paysages du jour tranquille. The work offers a unique signature, abundantly nourished by years of musical exploration and by the musician’s obvious talent as a composer and arranger.

2022 saw the release of THE NID, eagerly awaited by Paysages listeners.. This brand-new opus offers them a follow-up that is more about a taking-off rather than contemplation, like so many paintings evoking raw, living, moving human nature. Fiery, free and always sensitive: the opus is the natural and joyful continuation of a rich and surprising career. Blanche Baillargeon continues to amaze.
