Sophianne Girard

As part of the Grand Prix de la Relève Festi Jazz- Promutuel 2023, we are proud to introduce you to Sophianne Girard!

Sophianne Girard is a young jazz singer and composer from Greater Montréal. She has been singing about her love of music ever since she was a child. She performed in a choir, then a musical comedy troupe, before specializing as a soloist and composer during her post-secondary studies in jazz music at Cégep Marie-Victorin and McGill University.

She released her first album for octet, For Some Reason, in autumn 2022. She performed at the Festijazz de Mont-Tremblant, in the up-and-coming section, and at the T.U.JazzFest in Toronto in the summer of 2022. She was also one of three finalists in the jazz category of the international songwriting competition “the John Lennon Songwriting Contest,” with her song For Some Reason.

In winter 2023, she launches her Live at Opus Studios micro-album and the accompanying video. She is currently working on her second opus. Sophianne stands out with a sound aesthetic all her own. Her compositions can be described as mostly modern and modal. She has a busy summer ahead of her, with the Festival Québec Jazz in June, the Festival de Jazz International de Montréal, where she will be opening for John Pizzarelli at Théâtre Maisonneuve, and her other concerts across Quebec.

Sophianne’s clear voice has a “je ne sais quoi” that makes you want to hear more. Her songs will do the same!
