Ariane Racicot

As part of the Grand Prix de la Relève Festi Jazz – KSA Avocats et Notaires 2025, Festi Jazz international de Rimouski, presented by Québecor, is proud to present a performance by Ariane Racicot.

Ariane Racicot, named Révélation Radio-Canada Jazz 2022-2023, unveils her second album Danser avec le feu. This modern jazz embodies the ardor and intensity of the Montreal pianist. He blends styles such as jazz fusion, Latin jazz and jazz metal. There are also influences from classical music and progressive rock. Jazz artists Tigran Hamasyan, Hiromi Uehara and Avishai Cohen remain his main inspirations.

Surrounded by her trio, featuring Antoine Rochefort on electric bass and Guillaume Picard on drums, Ariane presents eight new compositions that evoke her joie de vivre and her passion for music. Some talk about resilience, eco-anxiety and the importance of following your instincts.

Danser avec le feu was forged during the tour of the first album, Envolée. With the growing complicity between the three musicians, Ariane was inspired to take the project further with them. Her idea was to continue exploring the fusion of genres, keeping the acoustic sound of the piano mixed with the electric tones of the bass. Changing at times from the usual piano trio orchestration, the album gives a prominent place to the electric bass, which becomes a melodic voice.
The pieces on this new opus are often “through composed”, giving the effect of progressive music. Sometimes the same piece is a blend of musical genres.
Danser avec le feu is also about exploring different languages, whether it’s the use of unusual sound textures, particular harmonic progressions or unusual rhythmic elements in jazz.
