Carl Mayotte

As part of the Desjardins Jazz Day series, the Rimouski International Festi Jazz presented by Vidéotron in collaboration with Desjardins is proud to present a performance by Carl Mayotte.

Carl Mayotte is a Quebec-based bassist and composer renowned for his virtuosity, deep sense of groove, and open-minded musical approach that bridges genres. Drawing from jazz, fusion, rock, and Latin music, he has developed a distinctive sound that has quickly established him as a leading voice on the Canadian jazz scene.

Winner of a Félix Award for Jazz Album of the Year in 2022 — one of Quebec’s most prestigious music honours — and nominated for the Radio-Canada Jazz Revelation award, Carl has released several critically acclaimed albums and has performed extensively throughout Quebec, Canada, and Europe. His projects stand out for their rich rhythmic and harmonic compositions, as well as their collaborative spirit, bringing together musicians from diverse backgrounds, including Ari Hoenig, Larnell Lewis, Didem Başar, Fred Fortin, and many others.

In March 2026, he will release his fifth studio album, Claude. This deeply personal and intimate project explores the experience of grief following the death of his father, marking a new chapter in his artistic journey while remaining rooted in the energy and openness that define his music.
