David Binney Quartet

Recognized for his distinctive style and innovative compositions, David Binney is one of the most prolific saxophonists and composers on the contemporary jazz scene. A three-time winner of the DownBeat Critics Poll in the Alto Saxophone category, he has recorded more than 30 albums as a leader or co-leader and appeared on over 400 recordings.

Born in Miami and raised in Southern California, Binney moved to New York City at the age of 19, where he built an international career before settling in Los Angeles. Over the years, he has collaborated with an impressive roster of artists, including Norah Jones, Bill Frisell, Aretha Franklin, Jamiroquai, Maceo Parker, Chris Potter, Antonio Sanchez, Knower and Maria Schneider.

Binney is also the creator and producer of the Donny McCaslin Group, which became the band behind Blackstar, David Bowie’s final album. His work also extends into production and electronic music, and he contributed to the soundtrack of the film Babylon.

His distinctive saxophone sound and adventurous approach to composition have taken him from New York’s underground clubs to major jazz stages and festivals around the world.
