El Balcón

As part of the Les Oiseaux de Nuit series, the Rimouski International Festi Jazz presented by Vidéotron is proud to present a performance by El Balcón.

El Balcón is a Montréal-based group that explores the folkloric blending of musical traditions from around the world. The result is a new form of living folklore: festive, danceable music rooted in traditional aesthetics that invites audiences to travel. Their major influences include the traditional music of Mexico and Cuba, as well as that of Greece and Turkey. Violins, strings, voices, and dance come together to the rhythm of spirited percussion. The result is a profound and introspective experience, with captivating and powerful soundscapes that enchant audiences while celebrating traditional music from across the globe.

On stage, the group radiates energy through a folkloric fusion driven by improvisation, creating unique and unforgettable moments. Their pieces are constantly renewed through the connection between the musicians and the audience, remaining faithful to the heritage of folk traditions whose purpose has always been to bring people together and foster a sense of community.

Continuing its international development, and following the release of its fourth album, Errante, the group has performed at festivals across Canada and Europe, as well as at renowned music showcases such as Folk Alliance International, Pacific Contact, Folk Canada, and MUZ, among others. The members of the group are now embarking on a new series of concerts to present Errante to audiences while continuing their creative journey—honouring musical traditions and bringing a breath of fresh air to the contemporary world music landscape.
