As part of the Desjardins Jazz Day series, the Rimouski International Festi Jazz presented by Vidéotron in collaboration with Desjardins is proud to present a performance by Gentiane MG.

Montreal-based pianist and composer Gentiane MG presents Can You Hear the Birds?, a deeply human project shaped by connection, listening, and openness. Recorded with her longtime trio featuring bassist Levi Dover and drummer Mark Nelson, the music unfolds as a shared experience rooted in trust, intuition, and collective expression.

Drawing from Gentiane’s fourth album, Can You Hear the Birds?, the repertoire represents a fully realized artistic statement and a defining chapter in her career. The music explores connection in all its forms — with other people, with nature, and with creativity itself, as well as with the ever-evolving parts of oneself. Rather than following a fixed trajectory, the compositions evoke open emotional landscapes that allow listeners to navigate through turbulence and serenity alike, in a movement that blends vulnerability and strength, loss and joy.

While Gentiane’s earlier work explored inner worlds, this project turns resolutely outward, embracing curiosity, movement, and lightness without abandoning the emotional depth developed over time. The trio works through a creative process grounded in listening rather than intellectual construction, giving the music a sense of immediacy, fluidity, and lived experience. Communication within the group and improvisation lie at the heart of the performance, shaping each concert as a living, evolving moment.
