A Virtuoso of Electric Bass on the Festi Jazz Stage: Mohini Dey in an Exclusive Performance
At only 28 years old, Mohini Dey is already regarded as one of the best bassists in the world. She gained international recognition at a very young age and has performed with legends such as Quincy Jones, Zakir Hussain, Steve Vai, and many more. Originally from India, she captivates with her lightning-fast technique and magnetic stage presence. Her appearance at Festi Jazz Rimouski is a rare exclusive in Quebec and promises to be one of the most electrifying moments of this 39th edition.
The opening concert, presented by Toyota Rimouski, will feature Jordan Officer. The event will also spotlight the creativity of Canadian women musicians with the Ostara project. Singer Betty Bonifassi, known for her powerful voice and daring soul/blues-infused projects, adds richness to the lineup. Contemporary jazz will shine through artists like New York saxophonist Sarah Hanahan and instrumental trio MISC. High-energy performances are also expected from bands like Five Alarm Funk and TEKE::TEKE. Indie darlings Comment Debord will perform under the Grand Chapiteau at Place Festi Jazz Québecor.
This year, Festi Jazz embraces its international roots more than ever with artists from across the Atlantic, including the Italian duo AFØNK and the jazz trio PowerHouse TreeOh!. The public is invited to join the opening celebrations starting at 5 PM on Thursday, August 28. The 2025 edition features a dynamic, gender-balanced program with more than 40 events. Closing out the festival, Québecor presents Julien Fillon, a multi-instrumentalist saxophonist who has worked with Razalaz, The Brooks, and Donald Dogbo.
Emerging Talent Grand Prize – KSA, Lawyers & Notaries
The jazz talent competition promises exciting performances on Sunday, August 31, featuring Ariane Racicot, Rémi Cormier, Montreal jazz collective Flö, and Franky Freedom.
Series for Everyone and Continued Services
As expected, downtown Rimouski will proudly showcase the Place Festi Jazz Québecor. Concerts from the Grands Spectacles, Nuits Jazz Toyota Rimouski, Éclatée Québecor, Emerging Talent Grand Prize – KSA, Lawyers & Notaries, and Journée en jazz Desjardins series will bring the weekend to life, enhanced by outdoor piano performances and entertainment. To wrap up each day, the Oiseaux de nuit late-night series returns for a fourth consecutive year. The festival site will be designed to offer a warm and welcoming atmosphere for all, with Norea fire pits, a kids’ zone, bean bags, food kiosks, a bar, an outdoor stage, and activities for the whole family.
